Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) launched its new Flexi Network Server (NS), and it has the lowest power consumption on the market, at 59 watts per 100,000 subscribers, according to the company.
Power consumption requirements vary by country, but NSN figures that within three years, the energy saving alone justifies in vesting in its platform.
The company says that the new Flexi server also addresses the needs of operators that are serving more smart device users and handing an ever-growing signaling load. In its designs, NSN has basically made the network more intelligent. Rather than putting all traffic through the server, software can determine when data gets forwarded to the network gateway, making the process more efficient instead of sitting idly at the server.
of course, NSN offers a range of products, and it has brought all its core products under on unified architecture and integrated them into on rack, thereby reducing the footprint.
But next-generation standards were designed so that operators could choose from multiple vendors rather than having to get all the pieces from one. In general, operators are not relying on single vendors - "you have to convince them for every piece of it", he says.
NSN already has customers that plan to deploy the new server based on trials, but as of the fourth quarter, it will be offered for general availability
The Flexi NS will work both as a Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN) for 3G/3G/HSPA networks and as a Mobility Management Entity (MME) for LTE. It's based on the industry standard ATCA based platform
